Our Model
EFL’s partnership model is on the cutting edge of the legal marketplace. The reality of our technological age is that bricks and mortar and palatial offices are no longer viewed by clients or attorneys as important or desirable in the delivery of excellent legal work. At EFL, we know that high-quality legal work can be accomplished in a collaborative, efficient manner each day without the need for the expensive and unnecessary trappings of a past era. The firm does not require each partner to work in the same office location. Each division partner therefore controls how and where he or she accomplishes the work. Division partners are responsible for their own division overhead as well as the sharing in some minimal common firm expenses. This allows partners to control their own costs (a common complaint in many legal partnerships) and to avoid the friction so often seen in the traditional firm model with high costs (eroding profits) and inconsistent partner uses of the common firm overhead. Compensation is transparent and is based equitably and predictably upon a “percentage of collections” model. The percentages vary depending upon the partner’s origination, referring, and/or working status on a matter.
